TECH STUFF-

Opa and Grandson is 100% available light coming in at a low angle from the nearby window. Canon 40D 50mm f1.4 lens.

The group shot was lit mostly by the harsh sunlight with an unmodified Nikon SB-28 camera right to provide fill. Ideally I would have pushed this shot about 2 hours for a more forgiving light but it was close to the longest day of the year and that would have been past the kids’ bedtime. Canon 5D mkII 70-200mm f4 lens.

The next two shots of the kids outside are available light only. The boy- Canon 40D, the girl- Canon 5D mkII. Both with 70-200mm f4 lens.

The girl at the table was shot with a Canon 40D and 50mm f1.4 lens. The on-camera 580EXII flash is bounced off the wall/ceiling camera right. I also flagged the flash to prevent any direct light from hitting the subject.

The two sisters were shot with a Canon 40D and a 70-200mm f4 lens. They were lit with a Nikon SB-28 into a silver umbrella with a bare SB-80 for hair light.

I think the harsh light in Pauls pic works really well 🙂
