Recent Work- Family Portraits

November 4, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

I realized the other day that it has been a long while since I posted any recent work on my blog so here goes an effort to get caught up.

As the fantastic Vancouver summer was coming to conclusion I had the opportunity to take some family portraits down at the beach. The weather held off for us and we even shot in the evening (a seeming rarity for family portraits).

Of course there were challenges. The sun kept darting in and out of the clouds which not only meant a wide gap in amount of light, but the colour temperature couldn’t hold still for more than a couple of seconds. Not the end of the world when you shoot RAW but it does determine how you mix in your flash.

Even though the kids were very well behaved they are kids. At the beach. Throw in the dog and hilarity ensues…..

TECH STUFF: I started the shoot with a Canon 580 exII off the camera being triggered with Cybersyncs. Setting everything manually with the constantly changing conditions proved near impossible so the rest of the shoot was done with the 580 on the camera and using ettl. Canon 5D mkII with a 70-200 f4L.
